Quick Bite: If I Had to Choose

Anyu and I were talking one day after finding out that a friend from church lost her daughter in a tragic train accident.

My mother was discussing some of the funeral details, and then she looked right at me and said, "You know, it would be just terrible to lose a daughter like dat. But I mean, it would be even vorse to lose a sister. I mean, if I had to choose..."

"Anyu, don't even think about finishing that sentence."

"Vhat? I'm just saying...I've had my sister my whole life!"

I'll have to remember not to call my mom the next time I am dangling precariously off a cliff. Sheesh.

oh, wow! that's pretty harsh...and funny. But reading your stories, I guess your mother didn't say it to hurt you. However it's still funny...and a little bit not! :D

Edit,

I know, it's funny because she totally doesn't mean to hurt peoples' feelings, it's just that she has these fleeting thoughts at times and no filter between her brain and her mouth :) Don't worry, I know she loves me, but she's just SO freaking honest it's hilarious!

Dang! I know she didn't mean it, and that her brain-to-mouth filter is defective, but it still must be hard to hear. BRUTAL but funny!

The more I want to meet Nagymama, the more afraid I am to meet Anu!

You're amazingly well-adjusted despite all this (non-intentional) verbal abuse. Some people might take it too personally...
